What is Reflexology
Reflexology is a Holistic Treatment based on the principle that there are areas and points on the feet, hands, and ears that map via the nervous system to corresponding parts of the body.
When pressure is applied to these areas and points it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels, and helps to restore homeostasis (balance) in the whole body.
Professional reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose, or prescribe. Reflexology is an individual, non – intrusive complementary health therapy. Usually after treatment your tension may be reduced and you might feel relaxed.
The client is made comfortable in a reclining chair in a safe, peaceful and relaxing environment and will be asked to remove footwear and socks before treatment commences.
An examination of the feet happens before the session. Some relaxation techniques are used, this helps the client feel calm.
The thumbs and fingers are used to contact the reflexes. During the first session, this can take 1 hour ½ as medical history, diet and lifestyle are discussed. Thereafter all sessions should last an hour. However, this can be adapted to the client’s needs which I am happy to do so.
